Joy Comes in the Morning
Abuse almost invariably takes place in secret, and most victims never speak to anyone about it. The pain remains with them for life, and their functioning as human beings is often negatively influenced. Some individuals may want to consult a therapist, but experience difficulties in finding a suitable person. Others experience such intense pain that they simply cannot face the therapeutic process. The purpose of this book is to give such people a recourse, so that they may once again experience the "joy that comes in the morning".
The book is written in the form of a number of letters to an imaginary woman who, as a young girl, was sexually abused by her grandfather. She lives in a small town and does not have access to a suitable therapist. She and her therapist (the author) agree to undertake therapy by correspondence. In the last letters, the sexual healing process is discussed.
Joy Comes in the Morning introduces the reader to the fundamentals of Transactional Analysis and its application to adult survivors of childhood abuse. The author has used this method of addressing the aftereffects of abuse with many clients for the last 27 years and has trained many professional counsellors and therapists to successfully employ the method in their practices.
